Rule of Cool
The Rule of Cool is an informal but beloved principle in tabletop games.
If something would be cool, exciting, or memorable — even if it's a bit outside the strict rules — figure out a way to make it happen!
The ultimate objective of the game is to have fun while telling a story, so the GM is encouraged to bend the rules to promote this.
In practice, this means that GM's and players alike are encouraged to prioritize fun and storytelling over rigid rule interpretation.
A player might attempt to swing from a chandelier, launch off a charging beast, or cast a spell in an unexpected, cinematic way. Even if the rules don't explicitly cover it, the GM can choose to allow it — often with a roll or a clever twist — because it enhances the story and creates epic moments everyone will remember.
- Creativity is rewarded. Players are encouraged to think outside the box.
- Memorable moments matter more than technicalities.
- Balance is kept through GM judgment. Not every cool idea automatically succeeds — a daring leap across a collapsing bridge might still require a tough ability check.
